J G Millingen
John Gideon Millingen (1782-1862) was a British army surgeon and author. He was the brother of James Millingen and uncle of Julius Michael Millingen. Millingen was born in Westminster to Dutch parents and studied medicine in Paris. In 1802, he joined the British Army as an assistant surgeon and served in the Peninsular War, earning a medal at Waterloo and the surrender of Paris.
