Isidra Sabio
Isidra Sabio was born in the Garifuna community of Cristales in Trujillo, Honduras. She attended world renowned Zamorano Agricultural Panamerican University, becoming the first Black woman to graduate from this prestigious university. Currently, she is a research scientist at a University in New York City. She obtained her Master in Science from Louisiana State University. Currently, she is a research scientist at a University in New York City. She obtained her Master in Science from Louisiana State University. After graduating, she returned to Honduras and worked for the United Nations in Malaria control and research for 3 years. In 2007' she was awarded "Scientific Contribution Award" by the Honduran President during the celebrations of the Afro-descendants month. Isidra has worked as a volunteer for different Garifuna organizations, in Honduras as well as in the United States. Most recently she has been working as a volunteer for the Garifuna Coalition, where she now serves as a Board Member since 2010. See less
