Ian McGill
Ian McGill was born in Quetta in 1946. His father, one of the four brothers in this book, was then serving with the 8th Gurkha Rifles in the uncertain period before India's partition. The family moved to Zimbabwe the following year and soon settled on a farm. Ian McGill was born in Quetta in 1946. His father, one of the four brothers in this book, was then serving with the 8th Gurkha Rifles in the uncertain period before India's partition. The family moved to Zimbabwe the following year and soon settled on a farm. Ian joined the British Army in 1965 and his military experience included service with commando and airborne forces, operational tours in Northern Ireland, Kuwait and Bosnia and leading the Royal Engineers as their professional head (Engineer-in-Chief). He was awarded the CBE in 1998 and the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in 1999. He left the Army as a Brigadier in 2001. He is married to Mary. They have a son who is a history teacher, a daughter working in television and two young granddaughters. See less
