Henri Maspero

The late Henri Maspero (1883-1945) was an eminent French sinologist and professor who studied under Édouard Chavannes and who along with Marcel Granet and Paul Pelliot can be said to have been one of the giants of French sinology. Henri Maspero's pioneering studies on Daoism has influenced generations of both Eastern and Western scholars in the field. He was Professor of Chinese at the Collège de France, and the Sorbonne University, Paris. He died in Buchenwald.
