Harry Gruyaert
Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Gruyaert started as a director of photography for Flemish television. But photography soon took over as it was more adapted to his independent disposition. He undertook editorial assignments from National Geographic, Geo, Fortune, Vogue and i-D amongst others. Gruyaert's total immersion in the color and landscapes of Morocco earnt him in 1976 the Kodak prize. Having joined Magnum in 1981, he later abandoned the Cibachrome process in favour of the digital print. Better suited to revealing the rich shades found in his films, it opened new possibilities for his work, one level closer to his orginal intention: to give color the means to assert its true existence.
