Harold C. Livesay received a B.A. from the University of Delaware in 1966 and an M.A. from The Johns Hopkins University in 1968. After receiving his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins in 1970, he accepted a position in the history department of the University of Michigan, where he was employed until 1978. In 1978 he joined the State University of New York at Binghamton. In 1981, he became head of the history department of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University at Blackburg, Virginia.
