Born in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas W. Hanshew was an American actor and playwright who lived from 1857 until 1914. When he was just 16 years old, Hanshew started his acting career by taking on small roles with Ellen Terry's company. He later played significant parts alongside Clara Morris and Adelaide Neilson.
