Gianluca Marziani, born in Milan in 1970, is a contemporary art critic, curator, and has been a professional journalist since 1996. He has been a part of several exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad. He has worked on many publications, collaborations with magazines, galleries and institutional spaces, and holding conferences and lectures at various universities, academies and private schools. He is interested in marketing and communication strategies, focusing his research on the dialectical processes between brand and cultural product. He is the artistic director of Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive Spoleto, co-founder and curator of the Terna Prize, co-founder of the magazine NextExit, consultant for the visual magazine Fefè and artistic director of the Fondazione Rocco Guglielmo. In 2003, he curated in New York "Young Italian Genome", the first exhibition of the decade dedicated to young Italian art in the US. In 2009, he curated "Connectivity" at the New York Chelsea Art Museum, reasserting his keen interest in young Italian art. In 2010, he was among the Italian curators involved in the "Expo Shanghai" project, which took place in the Casa Italia pavilions and in the rooms of the Supec Museum. He curated an exchange event hosted by the Pack Gallery in Milan and involving three international galleries: the Analix in Geneva, the Mizuma in Tokyo and the Galeria des Angels in Barcelona. In 2008, he realised "Scala Mercalli", the biggest Italian exhibition on street art: the project, accompanied by a book of the same title, was hosted for 5 months by the display areas of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. In 2010, he curated in Spoleto the first big Italian exhibition on "Pop Surrealism", authoring the first Italian book about this international painting movement. He was the first curator to realise events and exhibitions at the MAXXI Museum in Rome: with the Terna group, of which he is also a consultant for the prize bearing the same name, he realised press conferences, the Masbedo event and an exhibition in the rooms designed by Zaha Hadid.
