GEORG FRIEDRICH KNAPP (1842-1926) was a German economist, best known for founding the chartalist school of monetary theory. He was educated in Munich, Berlin, and Göttingen, then became director of the Statistical Bureau of Leipzig and professor at the University of Strasbourg.
