Frank Parker Day
Born in 1881, Frank Parker Day was an accomplished Canadian athlete and writer. After attending Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, Day returned to Canada to teach English at the University of New Brunswick. During the First World War, Day served as a recruiter for the Canadian Expeditionary Force and, by the end of the war, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Born in 1881, Frank Parker Day was an accomplished Canadian athlete and writer. After attending Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, Day returned to Canada to teach English at the University of New Brunswick. During the First World War, Day served as a recruiter for the Canadian Expeditionary Force and, by the end of the war, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. After Armistice, he returned to academic life, and became the Dean of Freshmen at the Carnegie Institute of Technology until 1926. It was during this time that he published his first book, The Autobiography of a Fisherman. Day is well-known for his novel Rockbound (1928), which won in the Canada Reads competition in 2005.
