Ernest N. McCarus (1922-2022) was Professor Emeritus, Department of Near Eastern Studies, University of Michigan. He served as chair of the Department of Near Eastern Studies, and director of the Center for Middle Eastern and North African studies and the Center for Arabic Studies Abroad at the University of Michigan. He was one of the founders of the American Association of Teachers of Arabic and served as its president and board member.
