Eric North took the background for THE ANT MEN straight from the Central Australian deserts as he knew them. And he knew them well. For this author lived "down under" ever since he was six and had visited every state in the Australian Commonwealth except Queensland. He explored Central Australia, was lost twice-once in the timber country and once in the desert he so vividly described. His adventures, which Mr. North regarded as "mild," included having his horse lost in quicksand, hornings by wild cattle, being trapped by falling timber and narrow escapes from forest fires. With this background it is little wonder that his many books, which have been published in the United States, Australia and Great Britain, always received an enthusiastic reception. See less
