Emily Richardson was born in Sydney, Australia, where she spent the first part of her childhood. The latter part was spent in a more bucolic setting, after her parents tired of the rat race of city life and moved the family to a farm a few hours west of Sydney. A few years later, with the blur of school and journalism college behind her, Emily set off to see what was going on across the other side of the world, living and working for several years in London and Los Angeles and travelling through an assortment of countries. Along the way she stumbled almost inadvertently upon Cairo, where life tasted and felt somehow different. The people, the language, the music and the culture artfully entrapped her, so she stayed to work and study Arabic. She subsequently met her Egyptian husband and they now have two little boys. They currently live primarily on the east coast of Australia and quite often in Cairo. See less
