Edward Cohen-Rosenthal 1952-2002 Ed Cohen-Rosenthal was Director of the Work and Environment Initiative at the Cornell Centre for the Environment in Ithaca, New York. Edward Cohen-Rosenthal 1952-2002 Ed Cohen-Rosenthal was Director of the Work and Environment Initiative at the Cornell Centre for the Environment in Ithaca, New York. He was on the faculty of the School of Industrial and Labour Relations as an Associate in Programmes for Employment and Workplace Systems. He was appointed as a US Delegate to the Special UN General Assembly for EarthSummit + 5 as the private-sector representative of workers and trade unions. Prior to joining Cornell, he was assistant to the President of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for education and labour-management relations. As director of the productivity/quality of work life programme of the International Masonry Institute, he worked with contractors, union officials and building professionals to design methods for increasing performance in the building industry. He was highly involved with finding practical ways for workers and their unions to contribute to environmental improvement as well as seeking innovative approaches to the greening of workplaces. These include research on employee participation in resource conservation and toxic use reduction in the United States and Japan. Ed was the author of several books and many articles on labour-management relations, worker education and environmental issues. He was a graduate of Rutgers College, where he later returned to join the faculty of the Rutgers Labour Education Centre after receiving his masters degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
