He has studied at many different universities and incorporates his academic research into the theories he discusses in his books. Scott was born in Iowa and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy and later transferred to the army. While in the army, Scott traveled all over the world. He went on to serve in the air force as a fixed-wing and helicopter pilot. Scott has also worked as a draftsman, photographer, and police officer. Scott has been twice widowed.
