Deborah Tannehill is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at the University of Limerick, Ireland (UL). Deborah Tannehill is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at the University of Limerick, Ireland (UL). She is Course Director for the Graduate Diploma in Education-Physical Education and Co-Director of the Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Youth Sport (PEPAYS) Research Center. Before joining the faculty at UL, Deborah was Professor and Assistant Dean in the School of Physical Education at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU). Prior to PLU, Deborah taught and conducted research on teaching and teacher education at The Ohio State University for 12 years. She taught physical education at the middle school level for 10 years and coached track and field at the collegiate level for 6 years. Active in state, district, and national professional organizations, Deborah served as Editor of the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Assessment Series, Publications Coordinator for NASPE, Chair of the NASPE National Beginning Teaching Standards, Chair of the NASPE/NCATE Teacher Education Program Guidelines, and Chair of the NASPE Task Force for revision of the K-12 Content Standards. Professor Tannehill is past Co-Editor of the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, served on the editorial board of Quest, and is currently a reviewer for the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. In recognition of her professional service, she was awarded the Joy of Effort Award from NASPE, was inducted as a Research Fellow into the AAHPERD Research Consortium, received the NASPE Presidential Citation, and, in March 2009, received the NASPE Curriculum and Instruction Academy Honor Award. She has conducted research on teaching, supervision/ mentoring, and teacher education in physical education, and she publishes frequently in both scholarly and applied journals. Professor Tannehill has published more than 45 articles, 15 book chapters, and co-authored a textbook titled Developing Teaching Skills in Physical Education with Daryl Siedentop. Currently her work is focused on curriculum development and assessment and the continuing professional development of practicing teachers.
