David Willman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist whose work has prompted major public health reforms. His reporting for the Los Angeles Times brought to light the pivotal developments surrounding the 2001 anthrax letter attacks. Willman was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting in 2001 for his Los Angeles Times expos on seven unsafe prescription drugs and how they came to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. His reporting led to the market withdrawal of Rezulin, an aggressively promoted pill for Type 2 diabetes, as well as a ban in 2005 of drug company payments to government scientists at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Willman's groundbreaking reporting in 2008 on the investigation of the deadly anthrax mailings was cited by the Scripps Howard Foundation as the year's best Washington-based coverage. Willman's work has also been recognized by the National Press Club, the Associated Press, and by Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. See less
