David Matthews
David Matthews started composing aged sixteen and spent three years as assistant to Benjamin Britten. Matthews, whose musical language is both English and central European, has been much concerned with reworking the great forms of the past - symphony, string quartet, oratorio. Dubbed one of Britain's 'most prodigious symphonists', he has written seven symphonies, four symphonic poems and twelve string quartets for some of the world's very top ensembles, orchestras and festivals.
