Daniel Butterfield
Daniel Butterfield (1831-1901) was a brigadier general of volunteers. He commanded a brigade in Porter's Division, 3rd Corps, and later rose to the position of chief of staff of the Army of the Potomac under Hooker and Meade. He is reported to have composed the "Taps" bugle call.
