Cyrus Shahabi is a professor of Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Spatial Sciences; Helen N. and Emmett H. Cyrus Shahabi is a professor of Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Spatial Sciences; Helen N. and Emmett H. Jones Professor of Engineering; the chair of the Computer Science Department; and the director of the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC) at USC's Viterbi School of Engineering. He was cofounder of two USC spin-offs, Geosemble Technologies and Tallygo, which were both acquired, in July 2012 and March 2019, respectively. He received his B.S. in Computer Engineering from Sharif University of Technology and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. He has authored two books and more than three hundred research papers on databases, GIS, and multimedia with more than 14 US patents. He was an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and VLDB Journal. He is currently on the editorial board of the ACM Transactions on Spatial Algorithms and Systems and ACM Computers in Entertainment. Dr. Shahabi is a recipient of the ACM Distinguished Scientist award, US Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), and the NSF CAREER award.
