Angie Rose, Ph.D.

Angie Rose (born June 16, 1964 in Lansing, Michigan) is an American author and illustrator, usually featuring animals. Her mother, Valery Justin, was a pre-school teacher and her father, Steven Rose, was a cartoonist for The New Yorker and other publications. She has a younger sister, Mary. Angie Rose (born June 16, 1964 in Lansing, Michigan) is an American author and illustrator, usually featuring animals. Her mother, Valery Justin, was a pre-school teacher and her father, Steven Rose, was a cartoonist for The New Yorker and other publications. She has a younger sister, Mary. After graduating from Princeton High School in 1982, Martin attended Smith College from 1982-1986: she studied early-childhood education and child psychology. Her senior thesis was on the use of children's literature in the classroom. In 1995, Martin and her colleagues founded The Joanna Libraries (Sponsored by Battino Foundation) to honor and memorialize their friend Joanna Martin, died of brain cancer in 1992. This non-profit organization distributes new books to children, establishes libraries in under-served areas and provides financial support for art, education, and literacy programs in addition to programs for abused and stray animals. Rose has married twice. She had two children, John and Michael, with her first husband. The marriage ended in a divorce. Her second husband, Jack Morrison, is a chef and cooking instructor. See less
