American Kennel Club

The AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB was established on September 17, 1884. It is a nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of purebred dogs. Besides maintaining a registry of recognized breeds, the AKC adopts and enforces rules and regulations governing dog shows, obedience trials, field trials, and other sanctioned events. The AKC also actively fosters and encourages interest in, and the health and welfare of, purebred dogs.
