Dr. Alberto Garcia-Diaz is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennessee with an academic career that spans over 40 years. He earned PhD and MSc degrees in Industrial Engineering with emphasis on operations research from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BSc degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia. Dr. Alberto Garcia-Diaz is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennessee with an academic career that spans over 40 years. He earned PhD and MSc degrees in Industrial Engineering with emphasis on operations research from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BSc degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia. He was on the faculty of Texas A&M University for 27 years and on the faculty of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK) for almost 12 years. At UTK he served three years as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and two years as Interim Head of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department. Professor Garcia-Diaz has contributed to the field of operations research with publications in the area of transportation, with particular emphasis on optimization methodologies in pavement and bridge management systems, as well as game theory applications in highway cost allocation. His other areas of research and teaching include network analysis, statistical design of experiments and facilities planning and design. He is an elected Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers for professional leadership and outstanding contributions to industrial engineering.
