Seller's Description:
Good. No Dust Jacket. 16mo. 611, plus tables. Rebound mid 19th C by Belz-Niedree of Paris. Red leather with raised spine bands and gilt lettering. Tooled decoration along leather edges inside of covers. All edges of text are gilded. Marbled end leaves. A beautiful binding, alas for the detached bottom cover which is present and in good condition. Otherwise, gilded edges show a few light scratches. Book plate of Georges Montandon on front paste down. Inked name on blank fly leaf, partially marked out, and inked commentary on verso of same leaf. A few lines of text are lightly and neatly underlined, mostly seen in the first quarter of volume. Otherwise, this volume remains tight, clean, and intact. In this work, Charron offers a system of moral philosophy based in part upon the works of Michel de Montaigne. Charron goes on to integrate his own ideas of the anti-rational strand in Christianity (Thanks Wikipedia).
