Auf der Grundlage der reichen Kopenhagener Handschriftensammlung, die Rask und er selbst zwischen 1841 und 1844 Indien und Iran hatten erwerben konnen und die einige der besten und altesten Avesta-Manuskripte umfasst, hat Niels Ludvig Westergaard (1815-1878) in den Jahren 1852 bis 1854 mit den vier Lieferungen seines "Zendavesta or The Religious Books of the Zoroastrians" die erste Gesamtausgabe des Avesta-Corpus veroffentlicht, die das Fundament fur ein grundliches Studium dieser Texte und der in ihnen bezeugten Sprache legte.Diese Ausgabe ist bis heute die vollstandigste Edition der Avesta-Texte und in dieser Hinsicht auch nicht durch die so genannte Neuausgabe Karl Friedrich Geldners ersetzt worden, der zwar wesentlich mehr Handschriften zur Verfugung hatte, aber nicht samtliche Texte abdruckte. Somit wurde die Editio princeps Westergaards nicht entbehrlich. Der nun vorliegende Neudruck macht diese Ausgabe wieder zuganglich. Eine ausfuhrliche Einleitung rundet den Band ab.
