The booklet, though it addresses the actual music on the album only in an annoyingly oblique way, goes into a good deal of detail about the interplay between Italian and native Spanish influences on the zarzuela in the eighteenth century, as well as about the currents of serious and comic material in the music, which are different from those in the Italian tradition.
