This was a quick read. Good story but I am still trying to figure out who Zachariah was. No one in the story named that. LOL

I suppose it's not entirely depressing and dismal - the first line is "I am afraid," and the last line is "I am hopeful." But it's just another one in the parade of adolescent literature that deals with catastrophe and angst. The characters are not impressive. They do not grow. The premise is interesting - all of world destroyed except for the first-person narrator and then the man who comes to the valley. But the overall feeling is one of oppression rather than freedom. I'm not looking for books to preach or to be sappy, but surely this joyless soliloquoy is not the only alternative.
