But what fuels people's fears of looking their age, and what do they hope to accomplish by appearing younger than they are? McCabe examines the age-defying industry in her documentary Youth Knows No Pain, in which she combines footage of her late father speaking with patients and frank confessions of her own struggle with self-worth (and anxieties about wrinkles) to a wide variety of people who openly admit they've had work done, ranging from Sherry Mecom, a Dallas socialite who admits to spending $35,000 on plastic surgery, to Norman Deesing, an artist and actor whose face lift gave him enough of a resemblance to Jack Nicholson that he's landed minor roles impersonating the actor.
