The book is helpful. I haven't used it much, but reference it during my first quilt project.
The book came in a very timely manner. The price couldn't be beat.
I am not happy with how the book was constructed, it was made of a weak black plastic spiral of some kind, my pages fell out with the first use. I will have to re-bind it to be able to use
it to its full extent.

It was my first quilt book!
This was indeed my first quilt book and it effectively taught me everything I needed to know to start quilting. I live in an area where there are no quilt shops, quilters, or quilt classes; so I had to fence for myself and this book was essential to me. Carol starts by explaining everything about colors, fabrics and blocks; then she helps us decide whether we should be sewing by hand or by machine; then she guides us through all the steps of a project, till we can successfully finish it; and she does it in a very pleasant, funny, easy-to-understand language. The projects in the book include wall-hangings, lap quilts, a table runner and a pillow.
Besides guidance in all the steps of the projects, the author also provides tips for future, more elaborate projects, in sections called "down the road": you don't need that information to finish any of the projects in the book, but later you will be able to, for instance, see a picture of a block and come up with the instructions for piecing it yourself. She also provides useful tables that will solve the math of your future projects.
The only drawback is that the book does not teach appliqué... but this is understandable since it does cover patchwork and quilting so well!
