Events during the year 2002 included the establishment of the independent state of Timor-Leste (formerly East Timor) and the holding of its first democratic elections, the entry into force of the Statute of the International Criminal Court, landmark conferences held on financing for development (in Monterrey) and sustainable development (in Johannesburg). It is fully indexed with references to all major General Assembly, Security Council and Economic and Social Council resolutions issued during the year.
