Seller's Description:
Near Fine in Very Good jacket. First edition. Music by Leonard Bernstein. Lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Bumped at the corner of the topedge else fine in very good or better dust jacket with three small scrape holes on front panel, touch of edgewear and light toning at the edges. A musical based on Fields' earlier play *My Sister Eileen*, which itself was based on the *New Yorker* stories of Ruth McKenney (her actual sister Eileen became Mrs. Nathanael West). Rosiland Russell, who had starred in the 1942 film version of the non-musical, reprised her role for this version, which ran for over 500 performances on Broadway. This play was then adapted by Robert Quine (who as an actor had also appeared in the 1942 film), who directed and co-wrote with Blake Edwards a new version, the 1955 film *My Sister Eileen*, with songs by Jule Styne and Leo Robin and featuring Janet Leigh, Jack Lemmon, Dick York and Bob Fosse. It is a testament to the wit of McKenney's original stories that each version was an enjoyable success, with this stage musical version being perhaps the best of all.
