The Najdorf variation of the Sicilian Defence is one of Black's most exciting defences. Largely due to the example of former World Champion Bobby Fischer, the Najdorf has been at the cutting edge of chess opening theory over the last three decades, during which time it has been a favourite of counter-attacking players across the globe.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who espouses the Black side of one of chess' more popular and exciting openings. King does a fantastic job introducing the theory, and more importantly, the strategy behind each of White's options against the Najdorf. For the most part, he stays with the tried-and-true main lines of the Najdorf but he also introduces new ideas and variations that allow one to "win" with the Najdorf.
(Note: Some of the ideas and lines may not be objectively winnings, an analyst/computer program may rank some of the lines as equal, or slightly better for White at best, but what's important is that they lead to positions that are familiar to the player who has read the book and reviewed the concepts.)
King covers the main lines: Bg5, Bc4, Be2, Be3, and introduces very briefly some of White's miscellaneous options including f4 and h3. The bottom line is that there aren't that many Najdorf books out there that are truly helpful, and for a slim paperback volume King packs quite a punch into this one!! If you play the Najdorf, you should own this book.
Pros: Very instructive, variations are kept to a manageable medium, King writes with humor and intelligence and his enthusiasm for the defense (from Black's side!) is obvious.
Cons: Cursory review of some of the anti-Najdorfs (e.g., h3, g3), the player who's seeking to build a comprehensive opening repertoire should look elsewhere for lines, nothing on the currently topical Scheveningen approach to the English Attack, more games and examples would help but a line has to be drawn somewhere obviously for a book to come to an end... and the Najdorf is a HUMONGOUS subject.
Recommended for: Club Players who may be taking up the Najdorf for the first time but need more than a Starting Out... series. Players who have experience with the Najdorf but are looking for a refresher and some new ideas. Not recommended for: Beginners to chess.
