The 'new Thinking' is spurred on by a fundamental reanalysis of socialism's failures in the past. It is a reanalysis, however, conducted in the context of a strong self-consciousness about socialism's successes. Foremost among the failures that the 'new Thinking' confronts is the inability of the socialist states to successfully develop an internationally integrated socialist world economy.
