There is no home office besides the kitchen and laundry room, and at best, our only compensation is a thank you. We do not earn income on the weekends, nor do we hand the baton to our spouse when she walks in the door. We do not have maids or nannies, or a pool or yard boy, since those are our jobs. We clean, we shop, and are responsible for most if not all of the cooking. We do not spend our days enthralled in daytime soaps, nor are the hours of the day whiled away playing video games. Our job is never finished for there aren't enough hours in the day. We are househusbands. In 1989, when I became a househusband, the knowledge that other men might be doing the same thing was nonexistent. In my world, I was alone left to battle my own emotions and feelings of self-worth and purpose by myself.
