Combining rare photographs, actuality footage, dramatizations and interviews with meterological experts, the weekly HD series recreates major historical events in which the outcome was determined by the weather. Among the subjects covered are such natural disasters as the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 and the great Mississippi flood of 1927, as well as the more recent devastation wrought by the Chicago Heat Wave of 1995 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Also chronicled are such weather-related tragedies as the crash of the dirigible Hindenburg and the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger. The role that weather plays in determining the outcome of vital wartime missions is thoroughly detailed in episodes involving the evacuation of Dunkirk, the D-Day Invasion and the bombing of Nagasaki, among others. And with such entries as "Titanic" and "Delta 191 Crash", the series describes the efforts made by contemporary authorities to anticipate potentially dangerous weather situations and prevent future tragedies.
