Cole Kerrigan, the young editor of the Longhorn Crusader stirred things up with his blunt newspaper headline, Either Longhorn or Kiowa McCord must die. The headline is a stick of dynamite which threatens to blow the lid off the Texas trail town. When the smoke clears, the Crusader is a pile of hot ashes and a bullet intended for Kerrigan has wiped out the evil Kiowa. A murder charge is brought against the innocent editor who realizes that he doesn't stand a chance in if he stays in Longhorn. Kerrigan and his loyal employee, Old Dixie Whipple, head for Alaska, but when a train robbery forces them to spend a few hours in Wheatville, Washington Territory, both the editor and the fighter in Kerrigan are intrigued by the events and decide to settle there. Soon after Kerrigan settles down as the fearless editor of the Wheatville Spectator a feud between the wheat growers and cattlemen reaches a climax and once again he finds himself caught in the middle.
