Here's an interesting question to ponder -- if Nirvana hadn't of crashed the scene, what path would rock have taken in the '90s? Well, it's quite possible that glam metal would have continued schlepping along. But it's also possible that the whole "retro rock" movement championed by the Black Crowes could have spread further, as such bands as the Quireboys were waiting in the wings. Often considered a "U.K. version" of the Crowes due to their Stonesy sound and fashion sense, the Quireboys (previously known as "the London Quireboys") ultimately got lost in the shuffle. After a pair of studio albums that garnered more interest back home than stateside, the group packed it up before firing up the amps once more around the turn of the 21st century. Their first album for the Steamhammer label, Well Oiled, shows that the boys haven't lost a single page out of the Sticky Fingers songbook, as their bluesy, brawlin', whiskey-soaked style remains very much intact throughout. Highlights this time around include the organ-laced album opener "Good to See Ya" and the bash 'n' roller "You've Got a Nerve," while "The Finer Stuff" could've fit comfortably on Highway to Hell, if Angus Young had chosen the organ over a Gibson SG. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi Read Less
