This book amazed me with its in depth look into methods and step by step projects with clear explanations a beginner can easily follow. Clear and concise chapters on color theory, composition, color mixing, tints, shades and tools and materials..it's all there. The instructions for achieving the glowing results with acrylic washes was just what I was searching for. This book has a permanent home near my work station, a real find!

One -of-a-Kind Flower Painting Book
This is a 5-star book in my opinion. It is unlike your average watercolor flower painting book and that is what I like about it so much. The style is surreal in some ways, and the colors sweep you away. Some of the author's paintings incorporate adding acrylics on top of the watercolors. There is a good section on planning a painting and design and composition. The author also gives a good demonstration on techniques such as lifting and glazing colors.
The demonstrations are well-explained, with good photographs of the process for each step. I'm in love with this book. Like I said, it is not your average watercolor flower painting book--it will sweep you away with the brilliant colors, the luminosity, and the surreal beauty. Most of all, it teaches you how to achieve author Mary Backer's style. I like everything about this book and would highly recommend it to others who want to learn to paint flowers. It's a very unique sort of book--one you'll want to keep, I think.
