The Walt Disney and the 1964 World's Fair boxed set documents a behind-the-scenes peek at Disney's various pavilions created for the 1964 World's Fair -- from concept, to design, to execution. These various fanciful, factual, and enjoyable exhibits proved so popular to fairgoers that some were made into permanent attractions at the Disney theme parks themselves. Portions of the Progressland and Magic Skyway exhibits were adopted for use in the theme parks' Tomorrowland areas, while "It's a Small World" and "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" became permanent installations unto themselves -- simultaneously becoming American cultural touchstones in the process. The five CDs included cover each of the attractions, including song demos, early script reads, and various mixes of the finished song recordings. Though a full hour of "It's a Small World" may be an exercise in sugary endurance for some, the recordings, along with the lavishly illustrated 24-page booklet, paint an inspiring picture of the creativity and knack for innovation that the Disney "imagineers" brought to these beloved attractions. ~ J.
