Every year, since my girls moved to New York, I come for a visit and also to go to museums and galleries, and if we can, try to catch some live music, especially jazz. We usually come in November, to spend Thanksgiving with them, -I love the cooler temperatures and the changing foliage- but this year we had to bring forward the date, because of a very special occasion: Our first grandson was about to be born. It's probably the only reason why I would face a summer in NY, which is harsher than in Puerto Rico. We arrived by the end of June, because our daughter was by herself (our son in law was away on a job in Miami), and my wife wanted to attend birthing classes with her, to assist on the labor. So, while we waited for Sebasti???n, I started writing these little musings of our stay in the city. I must say, Sebasti???n gave me ample time to sit down to write. He was scheduled to arrive between July 10 and 12 (I know, I know, it's not an exact science), but the dates came and went and no sign of the kid. Meanwhile we made good use of the time by taking in some of the new art shows in various museums, taking photos and writing. Two and a half weeks later, I wondered if the boy didn't want to face this world. Can't say I blame him. Is he holding us hostages? Maybe he wants me to write all this down, and he's giving me more time? All these questions and more will be answered (I hope), in Waiting for Sebasti???n.
