Taking up where the first volume ended, Sigmund the Volsung and Eileza Andavarsdottir, young thirteen year old teenagers are still on their own, having run away from home in order to be together, and not be forced to marry others for the sake of political alliances. The Guardians of Midgard have come together and are moving their armies east to confront the tyranny of Hister's Midgard Empire. The queen is pregnant and the forces of the dark side are determined to slay both her and the child, for they know that the child is a messiah that will be their undoing.
