This is a series of six essays, five of which had previously appeared in professional journals during the preceding 30 years. They describe the agricultural reform movement in Virginia in the nineteenth century. All of the Atlantic Seaboard states too part in this Agricultural Revolution. This started with the formation of agricultural societies which were organized before the National Grange or the Farmer's Alliances. State fairs and organizations evolved at this time. These organizations supported the establishments of schools and departments for agriculture and supporting infrastructure. The author previously had taught at Iowa State University. He worked with materials at the McCormick collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society at Madison, Wisconsin, the Virginia State Library, Washington and Lee, and the Virginia Military Institute.
