In addition, this broad-based text can be used to provide enrichment for studies of media literacy, media and society, and film esthetics. The text is flexible and scalable, with a scope broad enough to support a two-semester course. Its modular design permits each chapter to be studied independently of the others and in any order. This design allows the content to be excerpted for semester or quarter courses, or divided into beginning and advanced material for a multipart media curriculum. The text is organized in six major sections. Chapters 1 and 2 get students out making videos immediately. Chapters 3 through 7 cover videos immediately. Chapters 3 through 7 cover video communication--the concepts and principles behind the hardware and production techniques. Chapters 8 and 9 present the crucial process of preproduction--preparing to make successful programs. Chapters 10 through 14 treat all major aspects of videography, lighting, and audio.
