Elaborately decorated & illustrated white publisher's cloth, gilt decoration & lettering on front cover & spine, w/ gilt armorial of Queen Victoria on front cover (minor darkening to spine, minor shelfwear, very minor dustsoiling lower fore-edge front cover), still a NF copy, from the library of Edna Mackay Skene (1874-1928), daughter of Donald Mackay (b. 1843), owner and operator of North Pacific Lumber Co. in Portland, OR, wife of Dr. William Henry Skene (1870-1934), w/ ownership signature on ffep. First edition of this wonderful anthology of Victorian lyrical poems, including verses from Allingham, Sir Edwin Arnold, Aubrey De Vere, Charles Dickens, Charles Kingsley, Christina Rossetti, her brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Thomas Hood, Alfred Tennyson, and many others. Garrett (1853-1929) was a noted American painter, etcher, and book illustrator who although passionate about painting watercolours, became a prolific contributor to book illustrations in the 19th and 20th centuries, including illustrations for Tennyson's works, Austen's Pride & Prejudice, a beautiful edition of King Arthur, and more. In addition, he was a noted bookplate designer.
