"Vermillion Sands" is a medley of perverted arts which interact with man in oftentimes unpredictable fashion. This is a book's length about a place..each chapter is a pastiche breaking down into a microcosm of a part of that place. In an exotic flower shop, the BIG one rules the roost until a strange human? arrives to stimulate its corporality: the stems become enfleshed and swollen, there is neurotic reaction to all the other plants, etc. If this happenstance does nothing for you, try another. Slow read, but I was intrigued enough to come back to finish.
The episodes seem crazy until you accept each premise, in which case your world seems crazy. J.G.Ballard is a genius who has an indefinable something to how he says what seems important to him, and in many ways it can seem important to you.
