Dutch lyric dramatic soprano Gré Brouwenstijn sings radiantly and passionately as Leonora, and she demands attention in every scene in which she is involved. She brings thrilling intensity to the role, and her second-act prayer, "Madre, pietosa Vergine," is heartbreakingly poignant. John Shaw as Don Carlo has a large, heroic baritone with vibrant tone and an imposing dramatic presence.
