"Vanilla Vocabulary" is designed to develop oral vocabulary through imagery. Research indicates that vocabulary is a critical factor in cognition & a significant area of weakness for individuals of all ages. Research further indicates that imagery is a critical factor in vocabulary retention & development. "Vanilla Vocabulary" uses imagery for vocabulary stimulation in: 1) visualized sentences, 2) verbalized sentences, & 3) chapter vignettes for contextual imagery. First, words are defined & visualized in four sentences. This aids the individual in visualizing the meaning of the word. Second, the individual verbalizes, through writing or dictation, a sentence & establishes a personal image. Third, each chapter has a vignette using the previously defined & visualized/verbalized words in context. The chapter vignettes consist of humorous interaction between two fictional characters: Ivan & Gunny. "Vanilla Vocabulary" is meant to both instruct & delight with humorous storyline & illustrations. It can be used individually as a self-improvement workbook, by a teacher for developing oral vocabulary in the classroom, & in ESL & workplace literacy instruction. This edition is intermediate level vocabulary - 4th through 6th grade. A primary & advanced editions are nearly completed.
