The present recordings date from 2015 and 2016 and relate to the University of Michigan's Kaprálová Festival of 2015, which celebrated the centennial of the composer's birth. The program opens with Prélude de Noël, written in Paris in one night for a Christmas Eve radio broadcast in Czechoslovakia. The roots of the work lie in Czech folk songs and Christmas carols, and it is quite an achievement considering the time constraint and the state of affairs in Paris and Czechoslovakia in 1939. Arguably Kaprálová's most important work, Vojenská symfonieta ("Military Sinfonietta"), Op. 11, was written as her graduation piece from the Brno Conservatory.
