Illustrations, maps. When Mike and Mal Leyland and their friend, Trevor Teare, set out to sail from Darwin to Sydney in an 18-foot open boat people said they were mad. The Leylands had had no experience with boats. In fact, they had never sailed outside Sydney Harbour. But they went ahead. The purpose of their trip: to retrace Matthew Flinder's historic voyage of 1802 in H.M.S. "Investigator", using copies of Flinders' original charts and journals.
