Minneapolis family band Cloud Cult have always been ecology-minded, packaging their CDs in eco-friendly materials and infusing themes of social consciousness into their orchestrated indie rock. Following ninth album Love, Cloud Cult culled their massive discography for songs that resonated most with their stance on philosophical and environmental issues, coming up with a massive set list for an all-acoustic tour. Unplug captures one of the shows from this tour, recorded in front of a sold-out crowd at Southern Theater in Minneapolis, later mixed and edited into an hourlong, 17-song album of pristine rearrangements of some of the band's best material. Spare orchestration and minimal percussion make lots of space for the group's glowing harmonies, soft strings, and other chamber pop elements to shine through, and lead vocalist Craig Minowa's vocals and often spiritually charged lyrics rise to the front of the songs. The diverse set list includes material going as far back as "Breakfast with My Shadow" from 2004's Aurora Borealis, all rearranged in a more intimate, direct manner for the acoustic translation. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
